In Victoria the “Silly Season” has become the “Season Of Stupidity, On Crack”.

Victoria is blessed with a Labor government that continues to kick goal after goal. Daniel Andrews is riding high in the polls. Some have compared the popularity of Andrews to the popularity of Turnbull, however unlike Turnbull, Andrews has a new team of members and have put in place fresh policies. Turnbull on the other hand has reshuffled the same Liberal MP’s into different positions and portfolio’s and when it comes to policy has rebadged the policies of Tony Abbott.

So what is the Victorian Liberal Party to do in such a state of insignificance?

With News Ltd in tow they thought they would have a crack at just making some shit up, and see if it sticks.

At this time of year what could be better than the old “Labor is killing Christmas” crap?

Yes folks, it's Christmas in Victoria

Yes folks, it’s Christmas in Victoria

Well, if Christmas is supposed to be the season of goodwill, it is actually the Liberal Party that have killed it. Not only that, they have served up the decaying corpse on the front page of the Murdoch tabloid press for the gullible to feast upon.

Well Halle-fuckin’-lujah.

The Andrews government in January made changes that saw compulsory religious indoctrination removed from public schools, much to the disappointment of many who are being called before the Royal Commission into Sexual Abuse.

Now 11 months later some idiot has decided to make a very public dick of himself by claiming that this move to allow children to make up their own mind on religion when they are old enough, is in fact a murderous attack on kiddies Christmas celebrations.

This absolute imbecile apparent has a name, and it is Simon Breheny.

Simon Brenehy - The new face of stupidity?

Simon Brenehy – The new face of stupidity?

This seemingly intellectually empty vessel in the vague shape of a human has himself a position and a pulpit to preach his lack of wisdom from, that position is President of the Young Liberal Movement of Australia. If Mr Breheny is the most promising prospect amongst a sea of young right-wing nut jobs, then the Coalition can look forward to a long trip to political oblivion and a lengthy stay upon arrival.

Also spreading Xmas Smear was Geelong Liberal MP Andrew Katos, whose willingness to use other people’s children as an ill-advised political weapon resulted in this front page.

Nothing Sensationalist to see here....

Nothing Sensationalist to see here….

The Liberal Party in Victoria has been telling anyone who will listen that Christmas Carols are at risk of being banned from public schools by the Labor Government.

The fact that this is a blatant lie doesn’t seem to bother them.

It is also interesting that this lie has surfaced just as school finishes, this seems to have been lost on the main stream media, however I find it interesting that nobody seems to be able to name a school where any of this has occurred, and now schools are closed I guess we can’t ask them.

However one person that can be asked is Victorian Education Minister James Merlino.

Merlino who has received widespread acclaim for his tireless efforts in the education portfolio described the scare campaign this way in a column in The Australian;

“…. part of a Liberal Party campaign to convince Victorians that we have banned Christmas carols in schools. Not only is this untrue, it is a shameful attempt to drive a wedge in our community.”

“Victorian children – like my own daughters who attend government schools- can sing any Christmas carol they want at their school.”

This could be passed off as just a few Liberals without a brain cell between them getting confused, however I think this travesty was more about being sinister than being stupid, although there certainly was a healthy dose of stupidity involved.

This whole miserable episode has not shown us any kind of war on Christmas celebrations in schools. What it has shown however, is the depth that some will sink to in utter desperation to try and smear a popular government. The bottom of the barrel was actually a false base and the Liberals have burrowed further south in their eternal quest to find the bottom.

The Victorian Leader of the Liberal Party, whose name like most others I don’t know and couldn’t be bothered Googling, should do something positive for a change and ensure those within his Party spreading lies, scaring parents and upsetting children make public apologies.

Perhaps a New Year’s resolution to lift the standards of his Party wouldn’t go astray either. That may even count as a Christmas Miracle.

No matter how low we set our expectations for the Liberal Party they still manage to disappoint, however this debacle and this year has set a new standard in low.

Then again, the year isn’t over yet.

  1. All of us who know any rusted-on Murdoch consumers – our task is to do our best, via gentle persuasion rather than argument, to introduce them to decent alternative news and comment media. No government with a society-destroying neo-con agenda could survive without the MSM acting as their propaganda arm. Good work, Wixxy, and congratulations on what you have achieved. No doubt we will need you as much as ever in the year/s to come.

  2. Great post Wixxy! Its a bit like the (continuining) slurs that the Muslims are ALSO being offended,, n we must not have any “Nativity Mangers” in our shopping centres! Well in my “local”…there are two and my Muslim (& Jewish!) Friends love them!
Happy Eid/ Hanukkah AND WHATEVERS LEFT ..TO EVERYONE!

  3. Just read on ABC News website that Kathy Jackson has been ordered to pay back $999,000 (or close to that figure) back…geez…I hope she gets a REAL BIG XMAS STOCKING FROM SANTA! or maybe she could borrow a few cents from poor old Craig Thomson?

  4. There are a hellava lot out here Pete who share your frustration with all things ‘Liberal’ Govt, hell that name is just so not applicable it sticks in the throat.
Seasons greetings to you and your family, thanks for your tireless work shining a light on the injustices being committed by this Govt and their supporters…not forgetting the other side when it is applicable.

  5. Leader of the Victorian liberal party Matthew Guy
Something about Simon Brenehy reminiscent of early John Howard

  6. I can’t believe Simon Breheny is advocating for random clerics to be allowed in schools during class time when John Stewart Mill wrote in his ‘SPEECH ON SECULAR EDUCATION’ that “There is not a better defined word in the English language. Secular is whatever has reference to this life. Secular instruction is instruction respecting the concerns of this life.” The IPA says it’s for “Promoting public policy based on individual liberty”.

It seems like the Libral Party is completely against it’s own tradition and now advocates the joining of church and state. See the Rational Society of Australia: Scores for the Liberal Party

    http://www.rationalist.com.au/10-point-plan-for-a-secular-australia/liberal-party-scorecard/

The Andrews school policy is good policy:

“The Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (the Act) provides that government school education must be secular. Government schools must not promote any particular religious practice, denomination or sect, and must be open to adherents of any philosophy, religion or faith. Every person employed or engaged in a government school must have regard to this overriding principle of secularity.

Any group seeking to facilitate, lead or provide instruction in programs that are based on distinctive religious tenets and beliefs either *during lunch time or out-of-school hours*…”

Simon Breheny seems like he’s on the same trajectory as Tony Abbott…the bin of history via an embarrassing phase living off the public.

  7. I had noticed the schools not allowed to celebrate Christmas stories but I hadn’t connected the dots.

Thanks for all your hard work. I look forward to reading your future works.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone
